Surfaced Rainbow Poplar Board, 15/16" x 5¾" x 52" (PO-001)
This is the exact board you'll receive. One piece of rainbow poplar, surfaced on both faces and straight-lined on both edges, so it's ready to go straight to your project. Rainbow poplar gets its name from mineral streaks that paint the wood in greens, yellows, and the occasional purple or gray, and this board has them in spades. The front carries a long ribbon of olive and gold running nearly end to end, plus a small dark knot with a touch of deep green around it. The back has a bold band of yellow-green across the upper half, fading into soft cream with gray streaks along the lower edge.
Poplar is easy to work. It cuts, planes, and sands smoothly, and it's light enough to handle without a fight. Rainbow boards are best saved for projects where the color can show: boxes, accent panels, inlays, trays, and turnings.
A note on color: like all rainbow poplar, these greens and purples will mellow toward brown over time with light exposure. A finish with UV protection slows that down, and some folks love the aged look just as much.
