One piece of rainbow poplar, surfaced on both faces and straight-lined on both edges, so it's ready to go straight to your project. This one leans toward the softer side of the rainbow, with smoky gray and driftwood-brown streaks sweeping across the front and a bright band of gold running along one edge at one end. The back splits into two tones, with a gray-streaked upper half over a warm, pale green-gold lower half, plus a couple of small pin knots.

Poplar is easy to work. It cuts, planes, and sands smoothly, and it's light enough to handle without a fight. Rainbow boards are best saved for projects where the color can show: boxes, accent panels, inlays, trays, and turnings.

A note on color: like all rainbow poplar, these colors will mellow toward brown over time with light exposure. A finish with UV protection slows that down, and some folks love the aged look just as much.

Specs

Species: Rainbow Poplar

Inventory #: PO-002

Thickness: 15/16" (surfaced from 4/4)

Width: 5¾"

Length: 48½"

Board feet: 1.94 (calculated at 4/4 nominal)

Milling: S2S, straight-lined both edges (SL2E)

Natural defects: pin knots and mineral streaking, part of the board's character

Ships carefully packed from Evansville, Indiana.
